Sunday morning, Feb. 6th, I went in to be induced. The idea was that they would give me an injection to start labor and I would go home and wait for full labor to start. Since my entire family was in town for the weekend to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday, we were all going to my parents house to watch the super bowl. We told everyone we would go to the hospital in the morning and then meet them at my parents house. Well, God has other plans. Once the injection was made they needed to monitor me for an hour to make sure it took effect. At the end of that hour I was in full labor so they decided to keep me at the hospital. My contractions got real hard, real fast. I was in pretty intense labor by 2pm. At this point I actually ended up getting a walking epidural. It was the best thing I could have done. I was able to relax for a moment and find more strength. During the next for hours I was pretty sick to my stomach, throwing up every time I took a drink. Also, I was put on oxygen because Jack was not getting enough and his heart rate was dropping. When it came to pushing they had to go fast because the doctor needed to get him out. There are a lot of details of the day that I do not remember. Charlie will be telling someone part of the story and I am oblivious that that even happened. I was in labor for 9 hours.
When Jack arrived I instantly realized we were blessed with a little boy. They put him directly on my skin because his body temperature was low. I really loved that moment just feeling my baby boy against my skin. We immediately had many visitors, due to my family being in town. They all missed the last quarter of the super bowl in order to come and meet Jack. I guess that was the entertainment in the waiting room as they all waited.
Charlie and I stayed in the hospital for two days and came home Tuesday afternoon. For the last week we have had visitors every day and now Charlie's mom is here for a week. We are starting to figure out a feeding pattern. Also, we are trying to keep Jack awake a little more during the day in order for him to sleep between feedings at night. Yes, this is the most difficult thing I have ever done, but I am so thankful to be a mother. It is such an amazing feeling. I earn to hold him all the time. We are still so amazed to be parents and to have such a beautiful little boy.
We chose the name Jack because both of our Grandpa's names are Jack. I have always wanted to name my son after my grandpa and it worked out well that it is a family name on both sides. Also, Jack means God is Gracious. Wyatt was a name we had thought of originally and when trying to think of a middle name to go with Jack, Wyatt seemed to fit perfectly. Wyatt means little warrior. Charlie is really proud of that.
Today Jack is one week old and had his first trip to Church. It was such a blessing to be in church. There were so many people anxious to meet our little guy.
